Choose Change
Pastor Rod Block - February 18, 2018

Deuteronomy 30:15, 19 "See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity... So choose life in order that you may live...

We all have things in our lives that need to change. What do you need to change?

I need to change ____________________. (Fill in the blank)

A lot of people do the Hokey Pokey Change "Put your right foot in, put your right foot out, put your right foot in and shake it all about. You do the hokey-pokey, and you turn yourself around. That's what it's all about."

When it comes to change; when it comes to transforming our lives, a lot of people just put our right foot in and kind of do the hokey-pokey, and we don't really get involved in deep and everlasting change.

Here is the problem.
When we choose change we experience resistance, conflict.
We don't really like the conflict.
"I thought change was going to be instantaneous."

I thought it would be easy to change.
You mean there's going to be some conflict?
You mean there's going to be some temptation?
They didn't tell me that.
And we put our right foot out.

As the change occurs, You experience some tough times.

But this is where the growth takes place.
If we stay with change and negotiate through conflict, we'll get to growth.
Change, conflict, growth.

We have a choice. We either bail out right before the breakthrough or we endure.
A lot of people bail out because of the resistance. "Wow, it's hard! They do the hokey-pokey, and turn around. That's what it's all about. See ya!"

But right here is where the character is built. Here is where the real stuff is built. Here is where growth is built.

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
